White Mountains September 2018

This was a trip to the White Mountains, east of the Owens valley.  We camped two nights at Grandview camp ground.  Rained both nights.  We drove up to Wyman canyon, about 8 miles north of the camp ground.
Wyman canyon road goes steeply down to the east.  It is 15 miles to Deep springs valley.

Here is the view from the Grand View lookout point.  Some haze due to a fire by Mammoth.

These  huts were built to service the power line in 1908.  The power was generated west of Bishop by hydro power.  The power was the sent up Silver

Canyon, east of bishop, then down Wyman Canyon to the mining towns in western Nevada. The old poles are still

visible in the canyon.

Here is the interior of cabin.

Interesting rock formation in Wyman canyon. Lots of folding

Half way down the canyon is Roberts ranch, where cattle used to roam.  A stream starts here and runs down to Deep Springs Valley.

This pile of rocks was a smelter used to concentrate the ore for shipment out to the railroad.

White Mountain city is at the mouth of the canyon, just outside Deep Springs Canyon.  This is another smelter.  Not much remains of the town.

Some rock walls and foundations.
