Sierra trip 2023

This was a four day trip to the eastern Sierra Nevada.   We camped east of crowley lake off the Benton crossing road, behind a abandoned sheep camp at an Indian site.   At the camp there was a Mortero ( rock with holes for grinding seeds) and lots of black obsidian chips.  Very quiet camp.  Rained the first evening and hailed the following morning.

The first day, we were lucky and got a parking spot at the end of the road (Mosquito Flat) up Rock Creek Canyon. (10,200 feet). This is the Little Lakes Basin. Water very high in creek.  The snow started at the first trail junction.  Pictures are hereClick on  thumbnail pic to see the larger pictures

The second day we hiked up McGee Creek on the west side of Lake Crowley. The flowers pics are here. Click on  thumbnail pic to see the larger pictures

The third day we drove up the Tioga Pass road to the Yosemite park boundary, where the road was closed due to snow. On the way back to camp we took the June lake Loop.  Water was high here also.  Pictures are hereClick on  thumbnail pic to see the larger pictures

On hills west of our camp, at a earthquake measring site, the Sierra mountains are shown. Pictures are here. Click on  thumbnail pic to see the larger pictures
