Cusco (altitude  10,600 feet) was the capital of the Inka empire, which was conquered by Pizzaro in 1532.  The Spanish built a colonial city on the top of the Inka city.   Lots of nice cafe and restaurants and good shopping.  The main plaza is surrounded by cathedrals and shops. Inka ruins are all over the city with very fine masonry.  The walls are still standing after 500 years with no cement used for construction. We stayed at the San Agustin International Hotel.
