We drove up US 395 from Hermosa Beach and then went straight at Bishop on US6 to Tonopah.  Very little traffic.  Tonopah was founded in 1899 and has had several booms and busts.  The last bust until the present was the removal of the F117 fighters to another base, which emptied the town of people.   Tourism is the main income now.

We then went north to Austin and then to Battlemountain.  Lots of abandoned mines, but also some working mines in the area.  We met Nicole and Eduardo the next night in southern Oregon.
