Martinique is part of France.  The Euro is used in Martinique and the people speak French.   Not a lot of English is spoken.  We arrived in Fort de France on 9 March the capital of Martinique and there was a strike in progress on .  The streets were dirty and trash was everywhere.  There was a rally going on down the street from the hotel where we stayed.  They ranted until 1130 at night.  Dignity was anchored in the harbor about 500 yards from our hotel.  The morning after we arrived only about 30% of the stores were open.  The food stores had little to sell.   We left on our cruise and returned 10 days later.  The strike, which was about more money for the working people, was over.  The food stores were open and crowded.  The food was expensive.  The essentials (wine, beer, bread and cheese) were cheap.  A drinkable bottle of wine could be had for $2.80 USD.
