After we got the fuel pump repaired, we drove up the Dempster Highway  towards the arctic circle.  The Dempster highway is a gravel road that runs 477 miles up to roads end at Inuvik passing through the arctic circle.  Inuvik was to be the destination of our trip, but everywhere we mentioned it, people asked why go there.  So we stopped at the arctic circle 220 miles short of Inuvik.  We started up the road at 1100 and drove in light rain for 100 miles.  This covered the rear or the car with mud.  The gravel road was a mixture of gravel and dirt on a base that wouldn't melt the permafrost underneath the road.  The surface was smooth and we were able to travel at 50 MPH and sometimes get passed by other cars.  Not much traffic on the road.  Stopped at Tombstone National park then drove to Eagle Plain where we got room for $150 cdn.  About 100 over real value, but a gotcha.   Had dinner then drove to the arctic circle, where there is a monument.  Rain had gone away and temperature was 65 F. The next morning, drove through fog for 2 hours on our way back to the main road.
