Ajo---Mines, Organ Pipe National Monument.

Ajo was a copper mining town.  A very large open pit mine is at the edge of town.  The mine closed in 1985 and the town never recovered.   It is now a way station for the people traveling down to Rocky Point in Mexico and a staging point for excursions to Organ Pipe National Monument 30 miles south.  Very few restaurants are open in town so eating out is a chancy experience.   We stayed at the Guest House B&B which was a nice place.   We took a scenic tour around the town and made a quick trip to Organ Pipe the next morning.  The flowers were past their peak season.  Weather was uniformly great for the entire trip.
